I began my professional Scouting career in 1979 as a district executive in Pensacola, Florida. In 1982 I joined the staff of the Tampa, Florida council and served in several positions during my tenure, the last being director of field service.
From 2000-2011 I was the Scout executive and CEO of the local BSA council in Kennewick, Washington.
I have served on the national staff of the BSA in five different roles: Associate Director of Cub Scouting; Director of the Philmont Training Center; Team Lead for Volunteer Development and staff advisor to the National Volunteer Training Committee; Team Lead for Learning Delivery; and Area Director for Area 5 of the Central Region.
In February 2016 the executive board of the Great Salt Lake Council selected me to be their Scout executive and Chief Executive Officer.
I am a graduate of the University of West Florida, the Rotary International Leadership Institute, and the Disney Institute. I am the author of The Other Side of the Road, the story of the Philmont Training Center.
I am the past president of Rotary Clubs in Florida and Washington, and is a past president of the Cimarron, New Mexico Kiwanis Club. I’m an ordained elder in the Evangelical Presbyterian Church.
Janet and I are the parents of three grown sons, all of whom are Eagle Scouts, the in-laws of three wonderful women, and the proud grandparents of the beautiful Audrey Rose.
As I near the end of my days in professional Scouting I wanted to share my thoughts with you…
